Tipping your mountain crew
Tips are a large part of what guides, cooks and porters take home, so they are expected on Kilimanjaro. This is what we tell our climbers.
Typical amounts
These are guidelines per crew member, per day, from your whole group, in US dollars. Give more for exceptional service; no one should feel obliged to give beyond their means.

How it works
On the last morning, the crew gathers for a short ceremony, often with singing. We give you a crew list with names and roles beforehand. Put each person's tip in a named envelope and hand it over yourself, so that every porter receives their share directly.
Bring clean US dollar notes or Tanzanian shillings. Small denominations make it easier.
