The climb
- Day 1
Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa
2,100 m → 2,650 m
A long drive west to the gate, then a short walk into untouched forest.
- Day 2
Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1
2,650 m → 3,500 m
Out of the forest onto the western edge of the Shira Plateau.
- Day 3
Shira 1 to Shira 2
3,500 m → 3,850 m
An easy day crossing the plateau, and good for acclimatisation.
- Day 4
Via Lava Tower to Barranco
3,850 m → 3,960 m
Climb high to Lava Tower at 4,630 m and sleep low at Barranco.
- Day 5
Barranco Wall to Karanga
3,960 m → 4,035 m
The Barranco Wall scramble and a short afternoon to rest.
- Day 6
Karanga to Barafu Camp
4,035 m → 4,673 m
Up to Barafu Camp, our namesake, for an early dinner.
- Day 7
Summit, then down to Mweka
4,673 m → 5,895 m
Midnight start via Stella Point to Uhuru Peak at sunrise, then the descent to Mweka Camp.
- Day 8
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
3,100 m → 1,640 m
The last walk through the forest, certificates and the drive back to your hotel.
