Motorbike Safari

This motorbike safari includes spectacular scenery of the Usambara Mountains, rain forest and the beautiful beaches a Pangani, with lots of cultural exposure

  1. 6 Days Zebra RIDE/TOURS .

    Day 1

    After breakfast you will be picked at the hotel and transferred to Arusha outskirts where the bikes and the rest of the crew will be waiting for you. Today we are riding down to Naberera town in Maasai plain south of Tarangire National park, terrain will be few hills and mostly plain, dry land on an earth road. We will be arriving at the camp for hot lunch and later after lunch we will have a game drive on Maasai land. This area is a refuge area for wildlife from the National park during the rain season and some of the game are resident here. Lots of bird species, antelopes, zebra, giraffe and possibly elephants are clearly observed here. We will be back for dinner and experience Maasai warrior dance during the night.

    DAY 2: MAASAI STEPPE TO HEDARU

    Soon after breakfast we are going to break the camp and ride southeast of Naberera town, it’s the typical African road, sand and dust. The ride will be typical endure loop to Hedaru and we will have several stops on the way for lunch and other activities. We will spend a night at the river bank of Pangani where there is a camp located. There is a lot of mosquito during the night, please make sure you apply your repellants. DAY 3: HEDARU TO LUSHOTO

    Our adventure motorbike safari will be on tarmac road for a few kilometers at the start then, catch up with earth road which will take us to the range of Usambara Mountains. We will enjoy a ride on these hills where the view is stunning. We will get lunch on the way and stop at different villages to get the interpretation of the cultural and traditions since colonial invasion.We will spend a night at this old German Colonial town with wonderful sounds of crickets and night jars during the night.

    DAY 4: LUSHOTO TO PANGANI

    The adventure today starts soon after the breakfast, we are going to ride on Usambara mountains passing Amani rain forest while watching the scenic beauty of the area. The supply truck will turn down to Muheza town with chefs and tents to prepare a hot lunch for the bikers. As we show up at Muheza town, lunch will be ready and there will be time for a nap. After the short nap we are going to take the bikes down to where the coast lays with an easy ride to Pangani town, where we are going to put the bikes on a ferry to cross this massive river. We will start a 15min ride down to Ushongo beach for a night. The nights might be humid, hot and mosquitoes will be around. Soon after your shower, it’s an effective time to use your repellants.

    DAY 5: BEACH CRUISING

    There will be bunch of activities to do in Pangani beach like visiting the Marine park of Maziwe, scuba diving and snorkeling. During the night we will have a camp fire with all staff and crew and say good bye.

    DAY 6: DEPART AT PANGANI TO OTHER DESTINATIONS

    Departures will be soon after breakfast with other means of transport whether by car or flights and that will be end of our tour.

  2. 6 DAYS BUSH TO BEACH RIDE/TOUR .

    DAY 1: ARUSHA TO WEST KILIMANJARO

    Breakfast will be taken at the hotel and you will be picked up by 4×4 Toyota land cruiser to the starting point of the journey. We are going to ride 25km on the tarmac road then earth road which will take you on the leeward side of Mount Meru and the leeward side of Mount Kilimanjaro. During our picnic lunch at Ngarenanyuki area we will spend time where Meru tribes people are dwelling. On our way to our destination we might be able so see the herds of buffaloes, giraffes and, if luck,y elephant.We will head to the west side of Mount Kilimanjaro for the night at Kambi ya Tembo (elephant’s camp), where the Meru and Kibo peaks will be sighted clear in the distance.

    DAY 2:WEST KILMANJARO TO SAME

    After an early breakfast we are heading down to the slopes of Kilimanjaro through Sanya Juu area. We will catch up with tarmac road about 25Km up to Boma Ng’ombe area then gravel and trick earth road down to the warm spring of Chemka, where a hot lunch will be prepared by our chef. At this wonderful spring we are going to spend only few hours then track down to msitu wa Tembo (elephants forest) all the way to Same. We are going to spend the night at the bush camp near Same town.

    DAY 3: SAME TO LUSHOTO

    This is a tough day, where soon after breakfast we depart Same and catch up the earth road which heads to Mkomazi National Park. We will pass on the boundary of the park up to Kisiwani village where we will eat our packed lunch. Soon after lunch we will head on the road which heads to Gonja up to Mtae throughout Lushoto where we will spend a night. Lushoto is an amazing area for its alttitude of 2300m a.s.l, forest reserve and endemic species of flora and fauna. We will spend a night at this old German Colonial town with wonderful sounds of crickets and night jars during the night.

  3. 8 DAYS BUSH BABY RIDE .

    DAY 1: ARUSHA TO LUSHOTO

    We leave Arusha Town early after breakfast. We ride on tarmac road about 200km down to the Usambara Mountains which is part of the eastern arc mountains. We are going to ride on the zigzag road up the Usambara Mountains at Mlalo over 2300m a.s.l, which offers unique views over the region. We will spend a night here at a former German colonial town and the weather is very conducive here.

    DAY 2: LUSHOTO TO SAME

    After breakfast we explore through the range of the eastern Pare Mountains. The trail goes through virgin savannah up and about to Lake Kalimawe, which is surrounded by rice /padi plantations, palm forests and the small villages of Mnazi and Mlalo. After lunch we are going to spend some time watching the hippos near the lake Kalimawe. The ride continues on adjacent to the area of newly gazetted Mkomazi National Park where we are going to spend time for bird watching, since the area is a hot spot of more than 350 bird species.We are going down to the transboundary Lake Jipe, where we are going to spend a night here.

    DAY 3: SAME TO MARANGU

    Soon after breakfast we pack up camp and go with our packed lunch. We ride to the most fascinating caldera Lake Chala. Here we are going to spend a few hours walking down to the Lake for swimming and later we go up for a picnic lunch. We are going to ride with the sun setting to Marangu area, where we spend two nights.

    DAY 4: DAY TRIP TO KILIMANJARO NATIONAL PARK UP TO 2800M a.s.l

    After having a big breakfast, we are going to hike majestic Mount Kilimanjaro up to the first hut of Mandara 2850m a.s.l (optional). We are going to have mountain guides who are expert in this so don’t panic! Picnic lunch will be carried by one of the crew members, what you need to have is your day pack and enough water. It’s total of 7hours for a round trip and get back to the base camp. On our way back we are going to pass one of the biggest waterfalls which originates from the mountain for cold drinks then later dinner at the camp and spend the last night on the windward side of Kilimanjaro.

    DAY5: MARANGU TO WEST KILIMANJARO(170 km, 5 hours)

    In the morning we are going to do a Chagga Tribe cultural tour with our bikes for at least two hours. Then we depart to west Kilimanjaro where we are going to have a good view of both peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi which makes Kilimanjaro. On this day we will take a picnic lunch as well, if lucky we might be able to see mountain primates such as black and white coloubus monkeys and blue monkeys on the Rongai forest reserve. The ride will pass over earth road and newly tarmac roads, the distance will be 170km and we will arrive at Kambi ya Tembo for dinner. The camp is situated in between Mount Kilimanjaro and Meru. You will have an awesome view of both old volcanic mountains.

    DAY 6:WEST KILIMANJARO TO LONGIDO

    On this day we will have breakfast and later check our bikes for any maintenance issues . The road today will be typical African roads, dust, sand and gravel up to small town of Longido.Today we are going to have Maasai experience in their culture, traditions and customs. Meals will be prepared inthe native way with high hygienic standards and Maasai warriors will give us a dance while enjoying the barbeque.

    DAY 7: LONGIDO TO LAKE NATRON (OLDONYO LENGAI)

    Adventure ride on a very dusty trails way down into a huge gorge where resident wildebeest, zebras, giraffes and antelopes gather for grazing land and water. The last 50 km in this leg is a sandy and stony track cut in the rift. Oldoinyo Lengai is a Maasai word which means “The Mountain Of God.” It stands 2800m above sea level, Maasai people worships this Mountain since they believe that their God is living here.We are going to spend three nights here under the foot of this Sacred Mountain of the Maasai. It is surrounded by deep calderas whose sides are covered with ashy volcanic lava. The next day in the morning we are going to visit the largest soda ash lake, Lake Natron, the breeding site of flamingos in East Africa. Motorbike Safari 8 DaysLater in the day we will have a swim at Engare Sero waterfalls. Midnight at 12:00am we are going to hike Oldonyo Lengai, (this is optional). Soon after those who hiked have relaxed, we are going to have an easy ride to the natural hot springs in the area and it also will be a good day for photography. We spend the last night here with the Maasai community living around the area for more entertainment.

    DAY 8:LAKE NATRON- MTO WA MBU TO ARUSHA

    Trick ride today, 65km of dust and sand trails to the growing town of Mto wa mbu- (river of mosquito). There is a good chance of seeing game animals close to the track. Zebra and antelope are often in this area, perhaps we will even see giraffe or if we are very lucky, elephant. We stop for a break at a massive crater and then push on to Engaruka for a bush lunch. We are going to have a chance to do cultural tour and shopping of different artworks which are hand made here. After shopping we are going to ride 120km on tarmac road to Arusha town where the tour will end. End of the tour

Motorcycle Safety- Barafu Tours & Safari always have a briefing and technique class before any ride to avoid accidents as we start a trip and the ride will be only in day light hours.

Our Tour leaders are all trained in first aid response and we always take a medical kit, we take our time to guide you and the tour leader is always available to advise you. Drivers need not to have a special level of driving skills to participate; the circuit is open for off road learners.

The motorbikes are off-road models prepared in our premises (HONDA 250, 400cc XR). These bikes are light, maneuverable and easy to ride, yet has enough power to ensure plenty of fun! All our bikes are kept in top condition and are serviced before every trip.

Barafu Tours & Safari has a dedicated crew and support car with VHF radio and satellite telephone linked in permanence to the organization Flying doctors-Africa, where they can provide an aerial assistance anywhere and any time. It is possible to participate as accompanying passenger in 4WD car on the same itinerary. The size of groups varies from 2 to 10 persons. Barafu Tours& Safari is giving you a wide chance to have a customized itinerary e.g. lengthen the legs for the most demanding riders, we encourage everyone to find their own pace Age limit for the bike riders we suggest to be at least 15 years old to 65 years.
